PropCaster, How it Works!
The solar propcaster takes data from the Space Environment Center's website, and processes it
using a mathematical formula to determine the noise levels and the likelyhood of propagation on higher frequency bands.
The formula is not highly accurate, but it can be used to determine whether it is worth getting on the HF bands and giving
a call.
The A in the propcaster format, stands for the A-Index, and is followed by a number that is being reported by the Space
Environoment Center. Likewise the Flux stands for Solar Flux, and the K, for the K-Index. The Solar Flux is an indicator of
solar activity and solar energy striking the Earth's surface. The K and A indices are indicators of geomagnetic disturbances,
which can severely disrupt communications on earth and in space.
